Revision Technique – Neville Goddard

The Art of Revision Technique

If you have heard about Neville Goddard’s Revision Technique and wondered how to apply it in your own life, you’re in the right place. This powerful method allows you to reshape past events, dissolve emotional pain, and create a better present by using your imagination.

Many people struggle to maintain emotional balance while coping with past experiences or trauma. The Revision Technique is designed for exactly this. When the outside world feels overwhelming and beyond your control, you can retreat inward and use your imagination to revise your own reality.

“Nothing comes from without, all things come from the subconscious.” Neville Goddard

Why Use the Revision Technique

Neville Goddard first introduced the Revision Technique in his 1954 lecture The Pruning Shears of Revision. He taught that your imagination is not just a passive daydreaming tool but the creative force of your reality. Because your subconscious shapes your experiences, you can reprogram it to release pain and invite better outcomes.

How to Practice Neville Goddard’s Revision Technique

  1. Recall the Event
Think of an experience from today or from the past that felt unpleasant, disappointing, or out of your control. View it neutrally, without judging yourself or others.

  2. Reimagine the Outcome
Picture the same event but rewrite it in your mind exactly as you would have preferred it to happen. Focus on details that feel ideal and empowering.

  3. Relax Into the Scene
Sit or lie down comfortably. Enter a calm, relaxed state, then replay your revised version of the situation repeatedly in your imagination until it feels vivid and real.

  4. Feel It As Real
The goal is to let the revised scenario merge with your emotions. When it begins to feel like the actual memory, let yourself drift off to sleep or simply carry on with your day.

  5. Let the Revised Memory Replace the Old One
Later, when you think back to the event, the revised version should be the one that naturally comes to mind. That’s how you know the process has worked.

Neville recommended doing this each night before sleep to revise the day’s events, but you can also apply it to past experiences or traumas whenever you choose.

Changing the Past to Heal the Present

Although you cannot change objective facts, your subconscious does not operate on linear time. By revising the emotional imprint of a past event, you transform how it affects you now. Over time, this practice helps release guilt, anger, or sadness and brings a new sense of peace.

Focus on the feelings. Allow yourself to believe the new version. Replay it until it becomes your default memory. Even small revisions can create profound relief, and as your belief strengthens, your present circumstances will begin to reflect your inner changes.

Why the Revision Technique Works

Neville taught that imagination is “God in action”. In metaphysical terms, your manifestation power is not limited to the present moment. Your subconscious can be reprogrammed to alter past experiences and thereby create a better now. This is your life and your reality; you can reshape it at any time.

A Powerful Analogy

Think of your past events as ripples on a pond after dropping a stone. Revision is like dropping another stone to create new ripples. These new ripples represent new outcomes and consequences. By introducing revised experiences, you cancel out old patterns and establish fresh ones that align with your desired reality.

Final Thoughts

The Revision Technique is one of Neville Goddard’s most powerful tools for rewriting past circumstances and living more freely in the present. By practicing it consistently, you can release old traumas, heal emotional wounds, and create a life that matches your highest vision. This is your healing journey. Use the Revision Technique to cancel out the unwanted and embrace the life you truly deserve.

Michael Sutherland

Michael Sutherland is the founder of TrueCosmic and a devoted student and practitioner of Neville Goddard teachings. His path to this work was not academic — it was forged in crisis. Raised as a devout Jehovah Witness and Baptist, Michael walked away from the church at eighteen and spent the next 25 years in what scripture calls the far country — the prodigal son, wandering. He built a life by the world rules, searching without knowing what he was searching for. When the biggest crisis of his life arrived, he turned back — not to the church, but to scripture itself. Through Neville Goddard teachings he found what the church had never shown him: that the God of scripture is not an external being to be feared and appeased. God is your own awareness. Your own consciousness. Your own imagination. The I AM within. What he discovered was not a set of Neville Goddard principles — these are cosmic laws, written about not only in the Bible but across every ancient spiritual tradition the world over. The same truth, expressed in different language, in every age. The law of consciousness operates whether we are aware of it or not. We are manifesting constantly — the wanted and the unwanted alike. Understanding how this law works allows us to work with it consciously and intentionally, directing it toward the experiences we actually desire rather than the ones our unexamined assumptions are silently producing. In 2017, guided by two mentors — Dr Bruno R Cignacco and Roupa Jetto, a hypnotherapist and Buddhist practitioner — Michael had his first transcendent experience during deep meditation. In 2018 came something he could never have sought or engineered: what is described across traditions as a Kundalini awakening. A sound like rushing wind in both ears. An electrical current rising from the base of the spine, so intense it seemed impossible to survive. Every experience that followed — out of body states, movement along the spinal cord, sensations inside the skull — was documented in scripture, passage by passage, hidden in plain sight. This is not something that can be earned or manufactured. It is grace. According to scripture, it is every soul birthright — every one of us will experience this unfolding, in this lifetime or another. Michael does not share this to define himself above anyone else. He shares it because it confirmed, beyond any doubt, that what Neville Goddard taught is true — and because that confirmation is the foundation on which TrueCosmic was built. TrueCosmic today is home to the most comprehensive Neville Goddard library available online — 292 lectures — alongside an academy of courses, masterclasses and workshops, and 13 specialist coaches serving students across every continent. At its heart is a global community of over 92,000 members, all discovering what happens when you begin to work consciously with the law that was always operating anyway. The invitation is simple: become aware of the law. Understand how it works. And begin, deliberately, to use it.
