As an individual trying to navigate today’s fast-moving world, you may often feel confused or overwhelmed. It can seem as though life is moving at a pace you cannot grasp. Yet, as Neville Goddard taught, your circumstances are a reflection of your inner state – and that inner state can be changed. If you desire something or want to transform your life, all you need to do is adopt the attitude of believing you already have what you want. This is the essence of Neville Goddard’s Law of Assumption.
When you adopt the attitude, emotions, and behavior of someone already living their manifested life, you shift your reality from its current state to your desired state. This requires you to ignore what does not serve your personal growth and focus solely on the reality you want to experience. While it may feel difficult at first, with consistent practice, this attitude becomes natural. Living as if you have already received your desire is the fastest way for it to manifest.
The clearest example of this approach comes from the Attitude of Abdullah himself. Much of what we know about the great Abdullah has been reconstructed through stories because he rarely wrote his teachings down. What is certain is that Abdullah was an inspirational rabbi from Ethiopia whose influence shaped thousands on their spiritual paths.
Neville once said:
“But if I judge from appearances, I would say, ‘Well, he can’t be a holy man.’ For which today I am most grateful that he wasn’t! Because he taught me real Christianity. And he was born in North Africa, of Jewish parents, and raised in a strict Orthodox Jewish home. But he knew more Christianity than anyone I’ve ever met, because he spoke the Hebrew tongue perfectly. He spoke other tongues. And Rabbis would come to study with him. And he and I would discuss, day in and day out, for over five years, teaching me all that he could teach me that I could absorb concerning the Kabbalah, the great mystery of how this thing is put together in these simple little letters of Hebrew.”
A man of intense faith and integrity, Abdullah embodied a clear, powerful approach to life. His clarity of thought and speech allowed him to teach profound truths with simplicity. He rarely used traditional teaching methods; instead, he drew lessons from everyday life.
One of the most famous examples was when Neville longed to travel to Barbados during the Great Depression but lacked the funds. Abdullah told him simply, “You are in Barbados.” Abdullah instructed Neville to feel the weather, the atmosphere, and to see the small houses of the island in his imagination as though he were already there.
Neville was initially perplexed but followed the instructions. Night after night, he imagined Barbados – its atmosphere, scents, and surroundings. When Neville tried to discuss with Abdullah that “nothing was happening,” Abdullah refused to engage with the doubt. “How can you say you want to go to Barbados when you are already in Barbados?” he said. This steadfast response embodied Abdullah’s unwavering belief in the state imagined.
Soon after, Neville’s brother unexpectedly sent tickets and money for the trip. Neville spent three months in Barbados, exactly as imagined.
Abdullah’s attitude initially frustrated Neville but ultimately taught him powerful lessons about unwavering belief. Abdullah never entertained the possibility that Neville would not get what he desired. Instead, he consistently acted and spoke as though Neville had already achieved it.
The Attitude of Abdullah holds great value for us today. When we begin to doubt our desires, we block their manifestation. Hoping for a “better future” keeps us in a state of hoping, not having. Living from the end – the state of already being what you want – creates the conditions for it to materialize.
Living as though you already have everything you dream of is not a one-time ritual but a way of life. Belief is the key – belief in yourself, your dreams, and your wonderful imagination. Doubts create delays and block your convictions, while consistency and faith speed your manifestations.
Manifesting your desired life requires practice, persistence, and unshakable belief. When you combine imagination with belief, you naturally embody the Attitude of Abdullah. This mindset aligns you with the power that makes manifestation inevitable.
Countless times in his lectures, Neville encouraged us to test our imagination, but always with belief. By adopting this attitude, we too can live the lives we desire and progress on our spiritual journeys.
